Gold
The children in Gold Class have reached their final year of primary school and, just like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, they will reap all the rewards of their hard-earned success throughout their school journey.
This year, the children will hone their independent learning skills, collaborating on group projects, such as creating a wellbeing cafe, writing their own assemblies for parents, creating electric lights and hosting their own WW1 gallery.
The children will have several opportunities to develop important social and key life skills by participating in a range of events, class trips, including the action-packed adventure on the Residential to Kingswood, and by starring in the end-of-year class production. Year 6 children are also given the opportunity to become advocates, school council representatives, as well as a chance to be our Head Boy or Head Girl.
Our Year 6 children are resilient and determined pupils, who strive to achieve their very best as they work hard to learn new skills and consolidate previous learning. We aim to develop our pupils as kind, positive and mature young people as they become ready for their transition into secondary education.
You will find our class newsletters which will provide you with an overview of our learning each term.
Our teachers are Mrs Creed and Mrs Kelly. Our TAs are Mrs Biles and Mrs Moore.

Term 1

This term, our topic is ‘Fit for Life’. We have been learning about the components of blood. We used sweets to represent each of the components, including white blood cells, red blood cells, plasma and platelets. We have explored the functions of each of these components and how they support the human body.
We have also been learning how the heart works. We used balloons, straws and water to demonstrate the pumping action of the heart muscle. We have begun to learn that there are different types of blood vessels and that these transport blood around the body. We have also learned that the heart is, in fact, a muscle!
Term 2
This term our topic is Rememberance, exploring World War 1. We began by using clay to create our own poppies. We learned about the symbolism of the poppy and why it is considered the symbol of remembrance. We developed our clay skills by using a variety of tools and learned how to join two pieces of the material together.

We visited Hawthorn trenches to experience life in the trenches. We looked at the difference and similarities between British and German trenches. We walked through the trenches to find the cook house, the toilets and the sleeping quarters. This has really helped us to imagine what it would have been like to live in the trenches.

The day after rememberance day, we walked to the cenotaph in the centre of Dover. We held our own two minutes of silence and read some beautiful words to mark the occasion. We looked carefully for our family names and discussed the impact that the war must have had on our town. As a mark of remembrance, we laid our own wreath.
