Orange
This is the first year of our learning journey. During our first year of school we learn through playing and exploring, engaging in active learning and becoming creative and critical thinkers. We are encouraged to become independent learners and think of our own ideas, particularly when solving problems. We like to participate in a range of new activities, making links between our learning and we are proud of our achievements. Together, we are becoming respectful, positive, collaborative, responsible and determined learners that you do not give up, even when we find things tricky.
You will find our class newsletters which will provide you with an overview of our learning each term.
Our teacher is Mrs Salter and our TAs are Mrs McCluskey and Miss McConnell

Term 1

Orange class have had a fantastic time settling into school. We have been very busy with our phonics, drawing club and math learning! We have made new friends and enjoyed exploring both our indoor and outdoor environments. Orange class have been collaborative cats looking for signs of Autumn and joining in with the fun Autumn activities.
Term 2
Orange class have been busy this term creating spectacular firework pictures and using autumn leaves to create repeating patterns! We have enjoyed drawing club sharing some fantastic ideas of what we would take to the moon after reading. the story ‘whatever Next.’

In our maths learning we have been using positional language and investigating shape and numbers 1-5! We especially enjoyed making birthday cakes out of playdough and adding lolly stick candles! Orange class have had great fun building shelters and bridges for the dinosaurs as well as different size houses to use in our role play!

Orange Class had an exciting trip to the post box! First, we explored what we need to do before posting a letter. We discovered that our letter needs to go inside an envelope and that it must have an address and a stamp. The Jolly Christmas Postman story helped us learn all about the important information needed to send post.
After creating our special item (shh… it’s a surprise!), we carefully placed it in an envelope, added the addresses and stuck on a stamp. Then we were ready to go!
We walked safely to the post box and took turns carefully posting our surprise, ready for its journey to our homes. We then walked back to school feeling very proud.
Mrs Salter was extremely proud of what responsible rabbits we were!
Term 3
This term began with some very chilly weather, which provided the perfect opportunity for us to explore ice. The children investigated how it felt, described what they could see, and talked about the different shapes they noticed. We even carried out a simple experiment to find out whether sand would help melt ice on a racket, encouraging the children to make predictions and observe changes.

In Maths, we have been learning about capacity. The children explored the concepts of full, half full, empty, nearly empty and nearly full through a range of practical activities both indoors and outdoors. They particularly enjoyed pouring water through the guttering and collecting it in jugs to measure how much they had gathered.

During Drawing Club, we went on a Gruffalo hunt around our outdoor area and had lots of fun blowing bubbles, just like Zebedee in The Magic Roundabout. After reading Little Red Riding Hood, the children created their own “wanted” posters and used their phonics skills to write about the Big Bad Wolf.

One of the most exciting highlights of the term was the arrival of our chick eggs. We carefully observed as the eggs began to hatch, and we were thrilled when all ten chicks arrived! We discovered that we had three girls and seven boys and learned how to tell the difference by the colour of their feathers. This experience inspired lots of learning about the life cycle of a hen, and we were delighted to welcome parents into school to share this special experience with us.
