Indigo
We are an amazing class who work with others well and demonstrate good listening and sharing. We always have a positive attitude towards our learning. We believe that we should respect our staff, our equipment and our environment so that we can work as a safe and happy team. We are determined dogs who try extremely hard to achieve our goals.
In Indigo class, we will learn how to write by joining letters neatly with a pen. We also work extremely hard to learn all our timetable facts, so each child is fluent by the end of the year.
You will find our class newsletters which will provide you with an overview of our learning each term.
Our Teacher is Mrs Steeples and our TA is Miss Coleman
Term 1
What impact did the Romans coming to Britain have on our lives today? Historians suggest that the, ‘Roman invasion of Britain was the most significant event ever to happen to the British Isles. It affected our language, our culture, our geography, our architecture and even the way we think’. How can we prove this? Nearly 2000 years ago, the Romans came to Britain and changed our country. Throughout our topic, we will explore what life was like in Ancient Rome and investigate how the Roman Empire spread and eventually conquered Britain in 43AD. We will look for evidence of the Romans all around us and consider life in Britain before and after the arrival of the Romans. Boudicca was the Iceni tribe leader who led a rebellion against the Romans.
“She was fearsome with long red hair and blue woad on her face.”
“She was a fierce lion.”
“Boudicca wore a golden torc around her neck. She made many other tribes join. They respected her bravery.”
We have been learning about primary and secondary sources. Primary ones are artefacts that were created in Roman times for example writing tablets, pieces of clothes, buildings, glass, mosaics, but secondary sources are books, websites, paintings and sculptures. We have used our knowledge on place value to create chronological timelines. The greater the BC date, the older it is; the greater the AD date, the newer it is! Quite confusing.
We were lucky to visit the Roman Painted House in Dover.
“The Romans called Dover Dubris.”
“They built 2 lighthouses to watch for invaders.”
“A flue is how they heated the house. The fire heated the floor.”
“The opening to the flue was an arch.”
“They excavated it from 1970 to 1977. 40,000 people visited it in the first month.”
‘The rooms were built in AD 200.”
Back in school, we learnt about Roman roads and how they we made. We used different materials to make one.
Indigo class have been designing a mosaic pattern and then creating it by using tesserae in natural colours. We are now expert at this and we have learnt a new skill of grouting. Aren’t they amazing! We are looking forward to grouting our bathrooms!
